The Parque Natural de la Breña y Marismas del Barbate is a protected natural area located in the municipalities of Barbate, on the Atlantic coast of the province of Cadiz (Spain).

Protects the pine forest from Breña, between Los Caños de Meca and Barbate, along with the cliffs and the maritime strip that borders it, as well as the marshes of the Barbate river, which extend from La Barca de Vejer up to the mouth of the river, bordering the hills of the sierra del Retín.

In addition, in 2005 the areas known as Monte Marismas, Monte Quebradas and Peña Cortada, belonging to the municipality of Vejer de la Frontera, were added.

We can also say that it is located halfway between The Bay of Cadiz y The StraitThis area, halfway between the waters of the Mediterranean and the Atlantic, contains a magnificent diversity that occupies the once extinct lagoon of La Janda, which, along with other smaller ones, came to form one of the largest wetlands in Europe until it was drained in the mid-twentieth century.

Today they share the scenery of marshes, rice fields, pastures, dunes ( Hierbabuena Beach ) and pine forests, such as La Breña, which overlooks the cliff, a tremendous 90-meter cliff that extends along a stretch of up to six kilometers of coastline.

Close to the coast, small and intimate coves, totem poles such as Trafalgar or the famous corrals, stone enclosures used as fishing gear since Phoenician and Roman times, give rise to meadows of phanerogams where the light penetrates crystal clear turquoise waters.
