Tuna Route in Conil

The route of the Tuna in Conil de la Frontera goes one more year to Fitur with the presence of technical staff and information material on tourism. It will do it again in the Pavilion of Andalusia, stand of the Province of Cadiz, by the hand of Andalusian Tourism.

There, information is provided and publicity materials of the destination, edited by the Municipal Tourism Board and the City Council of Conil, are handed out. Also the local tourist establishments and companies.

But this year the absolute protagonism is expected to be of the Conil Tuna Route. This year it will be able to make the presentation on the central stage of the Andalusia Pavilion. This is thanks to the initiative “Andalusia, Landscapes with Flavor”, which aims to strengthen the competitiveness of the Andalusian gastronomic segment as a tourist attraction.

This initiative of the Consejería de Turismo y Comercio, Dirección General de Calidad, Innovación y Fomento del Turismo, contemplates the articulation of four tourist itineraries, thematic routes, linked to different landscapes of Andalusia.

One of these itineraries includes the tuna route in Conil and the tuna tuna t una days. These are carried out in the three municipalities that currently have an Almadraba: Conil, Barbate and Tarifa.

This allows for a joint promotional effort to be made on this offer, which will be presented at this edition of Fitur.

The Almadraba

It is one of the techniques for capturing the  tuna  used in Spain ? ? taking advantage of the tuna migration Atlantic- Mediterranean  (and back) which has been used since pre-Roman times. It consists of installing a labyrinth of nets in the tuna passage, which is normally located near the coast.

The almadraba is an art for tuna fishing, the simplest of which consists of placing two barriers with nets in which fish, tuna and others that may arrive are collected.

Thanks to the fact that they are still alive until they get on the boat, small or useless parts can be sorted out and discarded on the spot. The most experiencedfishermen go down between the boats and over the net to select the tuna that can weigh up to 200 kilos.

Conil de la Frontera is one of the places to visit without any doubt, for its beaches, for its gastronomy (Route of the tuna in Conil), for its people. And in the months of May and June the tuna route is celebrated in Conil de la Frontera.
